Mobile County Commission proclaims April 2025 as sexual assault awareness month

The Mobile County Commission took a significant step towards raising awareness about sexual assault during its meeting on April 14, 2025, by officially proclaiming April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month. This resolution highlights the vital work of the local crisis center, which has been supporting victims for 47 years.

Chandra Brown, the executive director of Lifelines Counseling, and Sophia Oatland, a victim's advocate, presented the resolution, emphasizing the center's commitment to providing 24-hour support and education on sexual assault issues. In 2024 alone, the center conducted over 400 programs, reaching more than 7,100 individuals across Mobile, Washington, and Clark Counties.

The resolution not only recognizes the center's extensive services, which include crisis intervention, hospital accompaniment, and community education, but also calls on Mobile County residents to unite in addressing and preventing sexual abuse and harassment.
