As the sun begins to warm the coastal air, excitement builds in Corpus Christi for one of the city's most cherished traditions—Buck Days. This year, the festival will run from May 1 to May 11, celebrating 87 years of community spirit and fun. The event, overseen by the Buccaneers Commission since 1938, is a highlight for residents and visitors alike, drawing crowds from across the Coastal Bend and beyond.
During a recent city council meeting, Johnny Filippello, president and CEO of the Buccaneers Commission, shared the festival's impressive legacy and upcoming highlights. Last year, Buck Days attracted 80,000 attendees, and the event has raised over $2.3 million in scholarships for local students since its inception. Filippello emphasized the festival's role in not only providing entertainment but also in giving back to the community, with a record $306,000 raised last year for various local initiatives.
