UC Davis student liaison transitions to Sebastian, a promising veterinary advocate

The California Veterinary Medical Board meeting on April 17, 2025, featured a significant transition in student representation from the University of California, Davis. The meeting began with a change in the agenda to prioritize the report from the student liaison, who announced her departure from the role after a year of service.

The outgoing liaison expressed gratitude for the opportunity to connect her school with the board, highlighting her experiences and the valuable advice she received during her tenure. She introduced her successor, Sebastian, a second-year veterinary student, who will take over her responsibilities. Although Sebastian was unable to attend the meeting in person due to scheduling conflicts, they participated online and were welcomed by board members.

Sebastian, who has a strong background in small animal medicine through family involvement in a veterinary clinic, shared their enthusiasm for animal welfare and veterinary regulations. They are also active in various student organizations, including serving as the treasurer and upcoming president of the Camelid Medicine Club and as the podcast director for the Students of 1 Health Club.

This transition marks a continued effort by the Veterinary Medical Board to engage with the next generation of veterinary professionals and ensure student perspectives are represented in discussions about veterinary practice and regulations in California. The board looks forward to Sebastian's contributions in the future.
