West Allis is set to enhance its cybersecurity measures following a recent Administration & Economic Development Committee meeting, where officials discussed a $100,000 federal grant aimed at protecting the city from cybercrime. The funding will be allocated to implement MDR Solutions over a three-year period, with the potential for ongoing costs estimated at $50,000 annually starting in 2028. City officials emphasized the importance of this investment to safeguard against potential hacking incidents, with plans to revisit the decision during the 2028 budget preparation process.
In addition to cybersecurity discussions, the committee reviewed a new Class B Tavern and public entertainment license application for Sale 59 LLC, which operates under the name ODB. The applicant, Daniel Zarath, who already manages multiple restaurants across different municipalities, assured committee members of his understanding of alcohol laws and responsible service practices. The committee approved the license, allowing ODB to open in mid to late May, with hours adjusted to accommodate special events.
Another significant item on the agenda was the new Class A beer license application for Speedway LLC. The committee discussed operational details, including the store's 24-hour service and measures to prevent underage alcohol sales. The application was also approved, with recommendations for improved documentation on the store's layout.
These decisions reflect West Allis's commitment to enhancing public safety and supporting local businesses, ensuring that the community remains both secure and vibrant. As the city moves forward, officials will continue to prioritize these initiatives in upcoming budget discussions and community planning efforts.
