Mayor Irvin unveils Aurora's new city website enhancing resident engagement

In a significant step towards enhancing community engagement, the City of Aurora unveiled its new website during a virtual ribbon-cutting ceremony led by Mayor Richard C. Irvin. This marks the first major update to the city’s online presence in eight years, reflecting a commitment to modernize communication and improve access to city services for residents.

Mayor Irvin emphasized the importance of the new website, describing it as user-friendly and designed to streamline access to essential information. The site features four main categories, dynamic buttons, and quick links to top tasks, news, and events. Additionally, dedicated subsites for key departments, including public safety and animal control, aim to provide tailored information and services to residents.

The launch of the website is part of a broader initiative to enhance city services through technology. John Zagoul, the city’s communications director, noted that this project has been in development for over two years and represents a significant shift in how residents interact with city services. He highlighted that the website is just the beginning, with plans for a new 311 customer service system set to launch next month, further facilitating communication between residents and the city.

The meeting also celebrated local business growth, particularly at the Fox Valley Mall, where six new businesses were recognized, including the relocation of Mandy's Soulful Kitchen, now rebranded as the Soul Spot. This addition brings the total of minority and women-owned businesses at the mall to 50, showcasing Aurora's commitment to diversity in its commercial landscape.

Patty Ryan, the senior director of local leasing and business development for Fox Valley, received the Mayor's Award of Excellence for her efforts in securing over 60 businesses at the mall. Her work has been pivotal in fostering a diverse business environment that reflects the community's demographics.

Overall, the meeting underscored Aurora's dedication to improving resident engagement through technology and supporting local businesses, setting a positive trajectory for the city's future. As the new website goes live and additional services are rolled out, residents can expect a more connected and responsive city government.
