Solano County Board designates April 2025 as National Child Abuse Prevention Month

April 2025 has been officially proclaimed National Child Abuse Prevention Month in Solano County, highlighting the critical role of community and family collaboration in preventing child abuse and neglect. The resolution was adopted during a recent Board of Supervisors meeting, emphasizing the importance of awareness and action in safeguarding children.

Alicia Gutierrez, a health education specialist with First Life Solano, opened the discussion, expressing her honor in presenting the proclamation. She introduced key speakers, including Zoila Perez Sanchez, the Child Abuse Prevention Coordinator, who outlined three significant events planned for the month. The first event, a pinwheel garden installation, is set for April 20 at the Fairfield Police Department, symbolizing the community's commitment to child safety.

On April 25, the county will host a Children's Flag Memorial Ceremony at noon, honoring children lost to violence. Dr. Nikki Parr, president of the Child Abuse Prevention Council, encouraged community participation in these events, stressing the importance of recognizing and supporting young individuals affected by violence.

This proclamation and the accompanying events aim to foster a united front against child abuse, inviting all community members to engage in meaningful discussions and actions throughout April.
