During a recent meeting of the Hendry County School District, significant discussions highlighted the achievements of local Special Olympics athletes and upcoming events that aim to foster community engagement and support for students with disabilities.
Crystal Rodriguez, the Special Olympics coordinator, presented an inspiring overview of the district's participation in state-level competitions. This year, 13 students from Pluston High School, Lavelle High School, and Lavelle Middle School competed in area games, with all athletes earning medals. The impressive tally included five first-place, five second-place, two third-place, and one fourth-place finishes. These students showcased their skills against competitors from Lee, Collier, Charlotte, and Sarasota counties.
