Sandy Springs arts leaders propose City Springs collection and turtle exhibit for anniversary

Sandy Springs City Council has taken significant steps to enhance public art and community engagement during its recent meeting on April 17, 2025. The council discussed plans to expand the City Springs Collection, a project aimed at integrating art into public spaces within city buildings, while also celebrating the city's history through a unique turtle sculpture exhibit.

The council's commitment to the arts was highlighted by the approval of additional funding for the City Springs Collection, which will allow for the curation and procurement of fine art for public areas, including the lobby and conference rooms of city facilities. Dina Chimney, Executive Director of Art Sandy Springs, presented an exciting proposal for a temporary exhibit titled the "Twentieth Anniversary Turtle Walk." This display will feature ten turtle sculptures, commemorating the city’s founding and its rich history. The turtles, which have become a symbol of Sandy Springs, will be installed on City Green from mid-June to early September, coinciding with various summer events and activities. Each sculpture will include signage detailing its history and a QR code linking to the city’s anniversary webpage.
