Las Vegas City Council supports Oikos Development Corporation's affordable housing initiative

Support for Oikos Development Corporation dominated the recent Las Vegas City Council meeting, with community leaders rallying behind the project aimed at enhancing affordable housing in the historic West Side.

Tasheka Lawson, a prominent advocate, highlighted Oikos' commitment to community engagement and quality housing, noting their efforts to learn from successful projects in the area. "They've done everything that they need to do when it comes to community engagement," Lawson stated, emphasizing the importance of their approach compared to other developers who often fall short.

The council discussed the potential impact of Oikos' project, which aims to bring resort-style housing to the affordable market, aligning with the city's 1909 form-based code. The support from community members reflects a growing demand for quality housing solutions that meet local needs.

In addition to the housing discussions, the council ratified Brian Smith as the new city auditor, a role he has held in an acting capacity since February. Smith, who has been with the city for over 26 years, expressed gratitude for the opportunity and acknowledged the support of his team and family.

The meeting also included routine approvals and reappointments to various commissions, showcasing the council's ongoing commitment to community service and governance.
