Manhattan honors Doctor Scott Becker with new community dog park dedication

The Village of Manhattan is one step closer to unveiling its long-awaited dog park, now officially named Doctor Scott Park, a Manhattan Community Dog Park. During a recent board meeting, officials celebrated the generous contributions from local donors and partners that have made this project possible. Construction is already underway, with electrical, plumbing, and fencing work in progress, and the park is set to open early this summer.

Mayor Mike Adrianson expressed gratitude to key sponsors, including Metra, the Manhattan Park District, and several local businesses and organizations, for their support in turning the vision of the dog park into reality. Among the notable contributors were Earthrise Energy, Grand Prairie Animal Hospital, and the Manhattan Chamber of Commerce.

The park is dedicated to the late Dr. Scott Becker, a beloved veterinarian known for his compassion and dedication to animals. His wife, Kate Becker, spoke at the meeting, highlighting the park as a lasting tribute to her husband’s legacy. She emphasized the importance of remembering loved ones and how this park will serve as a joyful space for the community, echoing Dr. Scott's spirit through the happy barks of dogs.

The community has long anticipated this addition, and the collaboration between the Village and the Park District marks a significant achievement in enhancing local recreational spaces.
