Jackson County School Board elects new officers for 2025-2026 academic year

The Blue Springs School District Board meeting on April 14, 2025, focused on the reorganization of board officers and key policy updates. With two candidates filing for two open positions, the district did not need to hold an election this year. Newly elected board members were sworn in, with Miss Keener administering the oath of office.

Following the swearing-in, the board conducted its annual reorganization. Dr. Jerome, acting as chairperson, facilitated the election of Mr. Swanson as president for the 2025-2026 school year. The board expressed gratitude to outgoing President Swank for her leadership during challenging times, presenting her with flowers, a plaque, and a gavel.

The board then proceeded to elect other officers. Jeff Seams was elected as vice president, April Agate as fiscal vice president, Kirk Sampson as treasurer, and Karen Keener as secretary, all receiving unanimous support from board members.

In new business, the board discussed recommendations for medical, dental, and vision insurance. There will be no rate changes for medical and vision, but the board contribution for dental insurance will increase from $17 to $20. The board voted to accept these recommendations, passing the motion with a majority.

Additionally, two policy revisions were presented for a first reading: one regarding physical screenings and another concerning medication at school. Both policies were discussed in detail during a prior work session and were approved for a first reading with unanimous support.
