Victoria construction project on track for $50M budget and timely completion by 2025

The City of Victoria is making significant strides on its ambitious $52 million construction project, with expectations to complete the new facility by late 2025. During the recent City Council meeting, officials reported that construction is currently underway, with substantial completion anticipated by August 6 and final completion by September 4, despite potential delays due to supply chain issues affecting critical infrastructure.

The project, which began 29 months ago, has seen a series of strategic decisions that have kept it under budget and on schedule. The City awarded a $2.8 million design contract to FGMA Architects in partnership with local firm RMA, and later brought on AGCM as the owner's representative, a move praised for its positive impact on project management. Spa Glass was contracted for construction in June 2023, and they have been proactive in addressing challenges, including weather-related delays.

City officials highlighted that the project is currently projected to save approximately $2 million, with 19% of construction costs allocated to local subcontractors, injecting nearly $8.8 million into the local economy. This includes a notable partnership with Decker Concrete, which has established a local presence, further benefiting the community.

In addition to financial updates, the meeting addressed quality control measures, including rigorous testing of materials to prevent issues like window leaks that have plagued other facilities. The City is committed to ensuring that the new building meets high standards, with ongoing evaluations and adjustments to the design as necessary.
