Vermont is set to enhance its energy efficiency training capabilities with the establishment of a new training center in Barre, following a contract signed with Everblue, a North Carolina-based training provider. This initiative, discussed during the House Energy and Digital Infrastructure meeting on April 16, aims to provide comprehensive training for energy efficiency work across the state.
The training center will not only focus on Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) training but will also cater to a broader range of energy efficiency training needs. The center is expected to begin operations shortly, with Everblue already conducting training sessions. Weekly meetings are being held to ensure effective collaboration and integration with local partners, including Efficiency Vermont and Zermattico Learning Resource.

Subscribe for Free Funding for the training center initially comes from a Department of Energy (DOE) grant, which is set to last until February 2026. However, discussions during the meeting highlighted the importance of establishing sustainable funding models beyond this grant period. The training center is expected to build relationships with local organizations and private contractors to secure ongoing financial support.
The establishment of this center is particularly significant as it will allow Vermont residents to obtain necessary certifications locally, rather than traveling to other states. This not only saves time and resources but also enhances the skill set of local contractors, making them more competitive in the job market.
As the training center prepares to open, plans for a ribbon-cutting ceremony are in the works, signaling a commitment to improving energy efficiency training in Vermont. This initiative represents a crucial step towards building a skilled workforce capable of meeting the state's energy efficiency goals.
