The Village of Romeoville is set to launch its first Public Safety Academy, a collaborative initiative between the police and fire departments aimed at enhancing community engagement and education. Announced during the Village Board meeting on March 19, 2025, the academy will run from April 10 to June 19, offering residents a unique opportunity to learn about various public safety operations.
Participants will engage in hands-on training covering a wide range of topics, including fire incident command, emergency medical services, CPR, and even defensive jujitsu. The academy is designed for adults and teens aged 16-18 with parental permission, and it promises an interactive experience rather than a traditional classroom setting. Registration is free, and interested residents are encouraged to sign up quickly, as only seven spots remain available.

The academy not only serves to educate but also to strengthen the relationship between the community and its first responders.
In addition to the academy, the board discussed a resolution to approve a proposal for painting the training tower at the fire department, which has not been maintained since its installation in 2009. This maintenance is expected to extend the tower's useful life and enhance its functionality for training exercises.
Overall, the meeting highlighted the Village's commitment to innovative public safety initiatives and community involvement, setting the stage for a more informed and engaged citizenry. Residents are encouraged to take advantage of these opportunities to learn more about the vital services that keep their community safe.
