Lucas achieves AP Capstone and scholarships as Ogden High senior

In a vibrant display of achievement and gratitude, Ogden High School senior Lucas took center stage at the Ogden City School District Board of Education meeting on April 17, 2025. As he prepared to graduate in just over a month, Lucas shared his journey, highlighting the myriad opportunities that shaped his high school experience.

Mark Allen, Lucas's counselor, introduced him with pride, recounting their collaboration over the years to build a challenging academic schedule. Lucas has excelled in Advanced Placement (AP) and Concurrent Enrollment (CE) classes, earning nearly 60 college credits that will allow him to focus on his mechanical engineering studies at the University of Utah this fall. His accomplishments include receiving the prestigious AP Capstone diploma and a presidential scholarship, which reflects his dedication and hard work.

Lucas's involvement in extracurricular activities is equally impressive. He is a key member of the state championship marching band, serving as the brass sergeant, and has also participated in the state qualifying varsity band, where they achieved straight excellence in jazz. His passion for music and leadership has flourished under the support of his teachers and the school community.

During his speech, Lucas expressed heartfelt gratitude for the opportunities provided to him, contrasting his experience with that of his mother, who graduated from Ogden High School in 2002. He acknowledged the significant support from teachers and administrators, emphasizing their commitment to student success. "I've been so incredibly grateful for it," he said, reflecting on the meaningful relationships he has built throughout his high school years.

Teachers also shared their admiration for Lucas. Mr. Davidson, his engineering instructor, praised his maturity and dedication, noting his impressive teamwork skills while working on projects with Northrop Grumman. Band director Mr. Renda described Lucas as "loud, opinionated, and infectiously obnoxious in the most charming way," highlighting his vibrant personality and leadership qualities.

As Lucas looks ahead to a future in mechanical aerospace engineering, he remains focused on his goals of supporting a family and leading a fulfilling life. His journey serves as an inspiring reminder of the impact of education and community support on young lives, leaving attendees of the meeting with a sense of hope and pride in the achievements of their students.
