Highland Junior High recognizes Student of the Month and math award nominee Melissa Shreve

The Ogden City School District Board of Education meeting on April 17, 2025, celebrated outstanding student achievements and recognized exceptional teaching talent. The highlight of the evening was the presentation of the Student of the Month awards, honoring two remarkable students: Lucas and Bea.

Lucas was praised for his bright intellect and willingness to help others, including his classmates and teachers. His contributions extended beyond academics, as he even created a blueprint for reorganizing a school bathroom. His trombone skills were also noted, showcasing his diverse talents.

Bea, nominated by her art teacher Miss Green, was recognized for her kindness and creativity. Described as a person who brightens every space, Bea's artistic talents and compassionate nature were celebrated. She expressed gratitude for the recognition and shared her aspirations to pursue a degree in art and design at Utah Valley University.

In addition to the student accolades, the meeting featured a significant recognition for Melissa Shreve, a junior high math teacher at Ogden. Shreve was named one of three finalists for the prestigious Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST). This award honors educators who demonstrate exceptional teaching practices and commitment to student success. Shreve's application will now advance to a national committee for consideration.

The meeting underscored the district's commitment to fostering a supportive and inspiring educational environment, highlighting the achievements of both students and educators. As the school year progresses, the community looks forward to more celebrations of excellence in Ogden's schools.
