City Council approves $30K for emergency water repairs and simulator training equipment

The City of Waukegan's Public Works & Infrastructure Committee convened on April 18, 2025, to address several pressing issues related to city infrastructure and maintenance. Next, the committee discussed the procurement of a training simulator from Centimeters Labs, which was approved for a not to exceed amount of $219,785.74. This simulator is intended for training public works and water department staff on heavy equipment and larger vehicles. The committee noted that Centimeters Labs was the only company capable of providing such a simulator.

The meeting continued with a resolution for retroactive approval of emergency water main repairs conducted by Joel Kennedy Construction Corporation, amounting to $112,021.41. This emergency arose from a significant issue on a 30-inch transmission line on Pershing Road, which required immediate attention beyond the capabilities of city staff.

The committee also authorized the disposal of two surplus lightning loaders through Cleveland Recycling. These loaders, deemed unusable due to rust and the removal of all functional parts, will be recycled as part of the city's capital asset disposal process.

Lastly, the committee approved necessary repairs to address drainage and flooding issues on Seahorse Drive, with a budget not to exceed $225,170.15. Rabin Paving was selected for this project, which aims to alleviate frequent flooding in the area.
