The Dayton Public Schools (DPS) recently highlighted the legacy of Charity Adams during a special discussion for Black History Month. Principal Carla Goins of Charity Adams Early Academy for Girls shared insights about the school's namesake and the impact of her leadership on students.

Charity Adams was the first African American woman to lead a battalion in World War II, a significant achievement during a time when such roles were rare for women of color. Principal Goins emphasized that students at the academy learn about Adams' trailblazing spirit and her fight for equal rights. The curriculum encourages young girls to embrace leadership, empowerment, and activism, fostering a strong sense of sisterhood among the students.

To celebrate Black History Month, the school plans to honor Adams with a special tribute, including a skit inspired by the upcoming movie "Tylie Perecraited." This event is set to take place on February 28, showcasing the students' talents and reinforcing the importance of Adams' legacy.

Goins described the academy as a unique environment, being the only all-girls primary and middle school in the state. She highlighted the school's commitment to creating a warm and welcoming community where young women are encouraged to aspire to careers that may not yet exist.
