Arvada City Council proclaims April 2025 as National Volunteer Month and Earth Day 2025

The Arvada City Council convened on April 15, 2025, to address several important community initiatives, including proclamations for Earth Day and National Volunteer Month, as well as a presentation on the Honor Garden project dedicated to fallen police officers.

The meeting commenced with Councilmember Ambrose presenting a proclamation for Earth Day 2025, themed "Our Power, Our Planet." This proclamation emphasized the city's commitment to renewable energy and sustainability, highlighting Arvada's achievements in energy efficiency and environmental stewardship. Lindsay Gillis, the new director of the Majestic View Nature Center, expressed gratitude for the recognition and discussed ongoing community engagement efforts, including an Earth Day poster contest for local children.

Following this, Councilmember Rupert introduced a proclamation designating April 2025 as National Volunteer Month. This initiative recognizes the contributions of over 700 volunteers in Arvada, who enhance community life through various service projects. Adele Burton, the special events manager, acknowledged the efforts of the Arvada Festivals Commission, particularly in organizing successful community events like the recent kite festival.

The council then honored the Arvada chapter of Beta Sigma Phi with a proclamation recognizing their charitable contributions and community service. Members of the chapter shared their recent projects, including the "Period Pack" initiative, which provides essential supplies to women in need.

The meeting concluded with a presentation by the Arvada Police Foundation regarding the Honor Garden project, a memorial dedicated to the four fallen officers of the Arvada Police Department. Charlie Leonor, president of the foundation, outlined the garden's design, which includes a memorial path and seating areas to honor the service of police officers. The groundbreaking ceremony for the Honor Garden is scheduled for April 27, 2025, with plans to dedicate it during Police Week next year.
