Boston School Committee approves $89M for BTU collective bargaining agreement

The Boston School Committee made significant strides in supporting its educators during the meeting on April 16, 2025, unanimously approving a new collective bargaining agreement with the Boston Teachers Union (BTU). This agreement, which spans from September 1, 2024, to August 31, 2027, promises numerous benefits for teachers, paraprofessionals, and the district itself.

Senior advisor Megan Costello highlighted the advantages of the contract, which was met with enthusiastic support from committee members. Superintendent expressed gratitude to the BTU for their collaboration throughout the negotiation process, emphasizing the positive impact this agreement will have on the educational community.

In addition to the contract approval, the committee also voted on two supplemental appropriations to fund the agreement. The first, amounting to $33,262,466 for fiscal year 2025, and the second, totaling $55,899,118 for fiscal year 2026, were both approved unanimously. These funds are crucial for implementing the terms of the new contract and ensuring that the district can meet its commitments to educators.
