Cedar Hill girls basketball celebrates historic season and strong performances

Cedar Hill ISD celebrated a historic season for its girls' basketball team during the regular meeting on March 17, 2025. Athletic Director Melanie Benjamin and Head Coach Collins highlighted the team's remarkable achievements, including reaching the state finals for the first time in 15 years.

Coach Collins praised the dedication and talent of the players, emphasizing the importance of teamwork and resilience. "This group played for each other and loved each other," he stated, noting that they faced the toughest district in Texas and finished with an impressive overall record of 29-9.

The meeting also recognized individual accomplishments, with several players earning all-district honors. Brooklyn King, Rylan Jones, and Makiyah Risby were named to the all-district first team, while Lantoria Daniels received the Sixth Woman of the Year award. The team's academic performance was equally commendable, with multiple players achieving high GPAs and being named to the all-academic team.

As the season wraps up, the community is encouraged to support the team at upcoming performances, including a public showing of their one-act play. The success of the girls' basketball team not only highlights their athletic prowess but also reflects the strong support system within Cedar Hill ISD, where many players' parents are district employees.
