The Katy Independent School District (Katy ISD) Board Work Study Meeting on March 24, 2025, focused on a proposed attendance boundary modification (ABM) affecting Cinco Ranch Junior High and Ties Junior High. The modification aims to move students from land use zone 60D, currently attending Cinco Ranch, to Ties Junior High, with an implementation date set for August 2025.
During the meeting, officials discussed the timeline for the ABM, which deviates from the district's usual process. Instead of the typical June presentation and September survey, families will be surveyed over a 30-day period starting April 1, with results to be presented at the May 5 work study meeting. The board is expected to vote on the proposal during the May regular meeting.

Currently, there are approximately 65 junior high students in zone 60D, with most residing in the Westlake neighborhood. The modification also includes zone 60C, which has very few students, to ensure a more cohesive feeder pattern from elementary to junior high to high school.
Transportation implications were also discussed. Students from the Westlake neighborhood would not receive bus services to Ties Junior High due to being within a walk zone, while those from the 60D area would continue to receive bus services because of safety concerns regarding crossing Gaston Road.
Board members expressed appreciation for the community's input and the district's responsiveness to concerns. The meeting concluded with a commitment to gather further feedback through the upcoming survey, ensuring that families have a voice in the decision-making process.
