She mentioned the importance of partnerships with various organizations, including the Long-Term Recovery Group and Hawaii Community Lending, to enhance their efforts in helping Lahaina residents.
During the meeting, committee members raised questions about the trust's focus on affordable housing versus open space initiatives. Awiloa confirmed that while there are options for open space, the immediate priority remains addressing the community's housing needs. She also revealed that the trust has not yet received funding from the Hawaii Community Foundation, despite ongoing efforts to secure support.
The discussions highlighted the critical role of community organizations in Lahaina's recovery and the pressing need for financial assistance to sustain their efforts. As the meeting concluded, the committee acknowledged the importance of continued collaboration and support for the Lahaina Community Land Trust and its mission to provide affordable housing and resources for the community.
