Mobridge Library announces winter events including pickleball and holiday activities

In the cozy atmosphere of Mobridge's city hall, the December 11, 2024 City Council meeting unfolded with a vibrant report from the local library and events coordinator, MJ. The evening was filled with excitement as MJ shared highlights from a busy month, showcasing the community's engagement through various activities.

The library hosted two free family movie nights and book club discussions that drew impressive crowds. In a heartwarming tribute to Veterans Day, the library created cards for local veterans, fostering a sense of community and gratitude. The recent pickle tasting contest was a hit, attracting over 60 voters and 10 contestants, while morning pickleball sessions at the Shear Hall Event Center have seen significant growth, prompting plans for an additional net in January.

MJ also announced a new winter fundraiser aimed at enhancing local recreational facilities, including swim passes and a new pool liner. The community is encouraged to participate in the upcoming "Chase the Space" event starting January 1, where tickets will be available weekly.

In a collaborative spirit, MJ is working with the Mobridge Youth Organization to prepare for the Bridge City Youth Classics basketball event on January 25, seeking volunteers to referee and support the games. The library has introduced a hot coffee and tea cart, inviting patrons to enjoy warm beverages while reading, and has transformed its space with a display of 21 beautifully decorated holiday trees, creating a festive atmosphere.

The meeting also touched on the importance of promoting library events. Council members discussed strategies to enhance visibility, including potential newspaper publications and community calendars, ensuring that residents are informed and engaged with local happenings.

As the meeting wrapped up, the council approved the payment of bills and scheduled a special meeting for December 30 at 5:30 PM, inviting the community to participate. With a sense of camaraderie and commitment to community engagement, the council left the evening with plans for a bright and active new year ahead.
