The Mukilteo School District celebrated the achievements of two remarkable students during its regular school board meeting on December 10. The recognition highlighted the importance of community support and the positive impact of educational programs on young learners.
First to be honored was Erisa, a second-year student in the Early Childhood Education and Assistance Program (ECEAP). Her teacher, Miss Mary Chipola, shared Erisa's inspiring journey from a shy newcomer to an enthusiastic participant in class. Chipola noted that Erisa now enters the classroom with a smile, eagerly engaging in activities and demonstrating readiness for kindergarten. This transformation underscores the vital role of early education in fostering confidence and social skills in young children.
Next, the board recognized Matthias Venegas, a sixth-grade student at Explorer Middle School. Matthias, who moved to the U.S. from Colombia, has shown exceptional dedication and kindness since joining the school. Assistant Principal Grace Manning praised his commitment to helping fellow students, particularly newcomers, feel welcome and included. Matthias's leadership as an Explorer ambassador exemplifies the school's values of compassion and community support.
Matthias also shared his personal reflections, expressing gratitude for the support he received during his transition to a new country and school. His parents echoed this sentiment, highlighting their pride in his achievements and the challenges their family has overcome since relocating.
These recognitions not only celebrate individual accomplishments but also reflect the Mukilteo School District's commitment to nurturing a supportive and inclusive environment for all students. The board's acknowledgment of Erisa and Matthias serves as a reminder of the positive impact that education and community can have on the lives of young people.
