Piper USD 203 celebrated significant achievements during its April 2025 Regular Board Meeting, highlighting the accomplishments of local sports teams and recognizing outstanding staff contributions.
The Piper High School boys basketball team concluded a remarkable season with a 21-4 record, earning a third-place finish at the Acacia State Basketball Tournament and securing the United Kansas Conference championship title for the second consecutive year. Senior guard PJ Moore achieved a career milestone by surpassing 1,000 points and was named UKC co-player of the year, alongside teammate DJ Jackson, who received second-team All-State honors. The team's success reflects the dedication and skill fostered within the Piper basketball program, led by head coach Steve Wallace.
In addition to athletic achievements, the board recognized Jessica Asbury, the district's elementary real-world learning coordinator, with the April Certified Hype Award. Asbury's innovative vision has transformed a donated school bus into a mobile maker space, enhancing learning opportunities for students across the district. Her commitment to education is further exemplified by her earning a CDL license to personally transport students, ensuring the project's success.
The meeting also honored lunchroom staff Janet Keuler and Q Johnson from Piper Prairie, who received the Classified April Hype Award for their exceptional service. Their positive attitudes and dedication to managing the busy lunch environment for over 540 students were commended by their supervisor.
These recognitions underscore the community's commitment to fostering excellence in both academics and athletics, setting a strong foundation for future achievements within the Piper school district.
