Auburn unveils new library logo and celebrates pickleball court opening

The Auburn City Council meeting on April 15, 2025, featured several community-focused updates and initiatives aimed at enhancing local engagement and wellness.

Deborah Beal, a resident of Tullahoma Drive, presented the newly approved library logo and showcased promotional t-shirts designed to encourage reading among residents. She noted that these shirts are now available and hopes to see them worn by both children and adults throughout the city. Beal reminded attendees that there are still two weeks left to log reading minutes for the ongoing "thousand minutes of reading" challenge, with plans for a new challenge to begin in May.

In addition to the library initiative, Beal celebrated the opening of the new pickleball courts, which are set to welcome players the following morning. She expressed excitement about the anticipated turnout, although she mentioned she would not be participating herself. Beal also highlighted the Parks and Recreation summer program, which includes activities related to pickleball and events at Lake Wilmore.

Another significant announcement involved the approval of memberships for the Renew Active and SilverSneakers programs, which will provide free access to local recreational facilities for eligible Auburn residents. Beal explained that these programs are designed to promote physical activity among seniors and former public employees, ultimately benefiting the community's health. She clarified that while the memberships are free for participants, the city will receive funding through insurance reimbursements, addressing potential concerns from residents about the program's costs.

Overall, the meeting underscored the city's commitment to fostering community engagement through reading initiatives and recreational opportunities, while also ensuring that residents are informed about the benefits available to them.
