Galena Park High School unveils comprehensive master plan for expansion and modernization

Galena Park Independent School District (GPISD) is set to undergo a significant transformation with the completion of a new high school campus, following the recent GPISD Board of Trustees meeting on April 17, 2025. The board announced the successful completion of Phase 1, which includes a 14-classroom addition and a new Career and Technical Education (CTE) facility, laying the groundwork for a comprehensive master plan aimed at enhancing educational facilities for the district's 2,100 students.

The new high school will feature a total of 414,712 square feet, aligning with industry standards of 180 to 200 square feet per student, with the design currently at an efficient 193 square feet per student. This expansion will include a multipurpose facility designed for community use during emergencies, as well as dedicated spaces for fine arts and athletics, ensuring a holistic approach to student engagement and community involvement.

The phased construction plan will add approximately 315,000 square feet of new facilities, including a new athletic complex and field house. The first phase of construction will focus on the new field house, allowing for the demolition of the old facility, followed by the construction of the athletic complex and multipurpose facility. The design aims to minimize disruptions for students during construction, eliminating the need for portable classrooms and ensuring a seamless transition between phases.

The architectural vision for the new campus emphasizes accessibility and community engagement, with the main entrance strategically located to enhance visitor access. The design incorporates modern educational spaces, including science labs and flexible classrooms, while maintaining a connection to existing facilities.

As the project progresses, the board remains committed to monitoring the budget and ensuring that the design meets both financial and educational goals.
