In a recent meeting of the Village Board of Ashwaubenon, officials addressed a significant tax dispute involving Bellin Memorial Hospital, Inc. The board considered Resolution R4-125, which formally disallows a claim made by the hospital regarding its tax status for the 2024 tax year.

The hospital, located at 933 Wabi Lane, argued that its property should be exempt from taxation due to its status as a medical facility. However, village staff, including the assessor and representatives from the village's insurance company, reviewed the claim and concluded that Bellin's request for tax exemption was not valid under current statutes. As a result, the board recommended denying the claim.

During the discussion, a board member inquired whether tax exemption had been a topic during the hospital's construction process. It was clarified that there had been no indication from Bellin that they intended to apply for tax-exempt status at that time.

The resolution was put to a vote, receiving unanimous support from the board members present. Following the approval, the village will notify Bellin of the decision as required by law.

Looking ahead, the board reminded members that the next meeting is scheduled for May, inviting any requests for agenda items in the interim. The meeting concluded with a motion to adjourn, marking the end of a session focused on a critical financial matter for the village.
