Lacey residents are urged to assist in a federal investigation following a significant explosion that damaged a Tesla charging station on April 8. During a press conference on April 16, officials from the Lacey Police Department, the FBI, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) provided updates on the ongoing inquiry into what is believed to be an intentional act of vandalism.
At approximately 1:34 AM on April 8, multiple 911 calls reported a loud noise or explosion near the 600 block of Sleater-Kenny Road Southeast, a commercial area that includes a Tesla charging station. Upon arrival, officers found extensive damage to the charging infrastructure, prompting the Lacey Police to request federal assistance for a joint investigation.
Special Agent Mike Harrington of the FBI's Seattle field office highlighted the importance of public involvement in the case. The FBI has released a "seeking information" poster featuring a suspect described as a white male, between 5'10" and 6'2", wearing a dark jacket and face covering, and possibly suffering from injuries consistent with being near an explosion. Authorities are particularly interested in any photos or videos taken in the vicinity of the South Sound Center, including footage from doorbell cameras or security systems, from the evening of April 7 to the early hours of April 8.
Additionally, investigators are looking for a gray to dark gray Tesla Model X, manufactured between 2016 and 2019, that was present at the charging station during the incident. While this vehicle is not considered a suspect, it may hold crucial evidence related to the explosion.
Jonathan Blaze, Special Agent in Charge of the ATF Seattle Field Division, emphasized the agency's commitment to investigating arson-related incidents and noted that they are collaborating with local and federal partners to address similar attacks on Tesla facilities in the region.
The Lacey Police Department and federal agencies are urging anyone with information to come forward, as community tips could be vital in resolving this case. The investigation continues, with officials expressing hope for a swift resolution and accountability for those responsible for the attack.
