Glen Falls Fire Department honors firefighters for heroic rescue during apartment fire

During the City of Glens Falls Common Council meeting on April 8, 2025, a significant moment unfolded as the council recognized the heroic actions of local firefighters and emergency medical services (EMS) personnel for their life-saving efforts during a recent fire incident. On January 15, 2025, firefighters responded to a fire at 150 Eighth Bay Street, where they faced numerous challenges, including a rapidly spreading fire and low visibility conditions. Despite these obstacles, the team managed to evacuate eight residents and rescue an unconscious, wheelchair-bound woman, Rebecca Ozer, from the second floor. The quick actions of the firefighters not only saved lives but also contained the fire to its unit of origin, minimizing damage to surrounding apartments.

Deputy Chief Modar presented Lifesaving Awards to the crew involved in the incident, acknowledging their exceptional coordination and commitment to public safety. The awards were accepted by family members of some firefighters who were unable to attend due to other commitments, including training at the fire academy.

In addition to honoring the firefighters, the council recognized the contributions of mutual aid units from West Glens Falls EMS and Queensbury EMS. Both organizations played crucial roles in providing medical assistance and support during the emergency.
