Taos School Board recognizes students for academic and extracurricular achievements

The Taos Municipal Schools Board held a regular meeting on April 16, 2025, focusing on student achievements and community engagement. The meeting commenced with a roll call and the Pledge of Allegiance, led by Macy Moscantolo, a student from Taos Cyber Magnet School, who expressed her aspirations in nursing and her appreciation for her teachers.

One of the key highlights was the recognition of students from Taos Middle School who qualified for the state science fair. Superintendent Lien acknowledged their hard work and dedication, with students presenting projects on various scientific topics, including the effects of socialization on Alzheimer's disease and robotics.

The board also recognized participants from the Taos Middle School Electric Car Competition, where students showcased their engineering skills. They placed 20th out of 43 teams, earning the Spirit Award, and one student received third place for a research project.

Further recognition was given to Taos High School students, including the Educators Rising team, which achieved national qualification. Mia Barela and Brianna Taylor were highlighted for their outstanding performances in public speaking competitions.

The meeting also included public comments, with Tanya Duncan from the Taos Soil and Water Conservation District expressing gratitude for the support of local students in environmental science initiatives.
