League City plans for West Side growth ahead of Grand Parkway construction

League City is gearing up for significant growth on the West Side, with plans in motion to accommodate the expected influx of residents and businesses. City officials highlighted the urgency of proactive planning during a recent Planning and Zoning meeting, emphasizing the upcoming construction of the Grand Parkway, set to begin in 2027 and wrap up by 2031.

"We're having explosive growth on the West Side of town already," a city representative stated, underscoring the need to prepare for the changes ahead. The expansion of Highway 517 is also on the horizon, further contributing to the anticipated development in the area.

To tackle this growth effectively, League City has enlisted the help of LJA, a consulting firm hired in 2024. Their expertise will guide the city in achieving key goals such as productive land use, infrastructure planning, economic development, and creating a strong sense of place for the community.

As part of this initiative, city planners are focusing on enhancing parks and open spaces, ensuring that the West Side remains a vibrant and livable area as it expands. The proactive measures being taken now aim to set the stage for a thriving future in League City.
