Smithfield High School girls hockey team advances to semifinals at Providence College

Under the bright lights of Smithfield High School, excitement fills the air as the girls' hockey team prepares for a pivotal moment in their season. Tomorrow evening, March 7, at 8:00 PM, they will face off in the Rhode Island Interscholastic League Division 1 semifinals at Providence College's Schneider Arena. A victory would propel them to the state championship on Sunday, March 9, marking a significant achievement for the team after months of dedication and hard work.

Meanwhile, the Cinthill High School music department is also gearing up for a major event. Their production of "Mamma Mia" is set to open next Friday, March 14, at 7:00 PM, with two additional performances scheduled for the following weekend. This musical promises to showcase the talents of the students and bring the community together for an entertaining experience.

In a different realm of education, Smithfield High School students enrolled in advanced foreign language classes recently had the opportunity to take the CLPI literacy exam. This assessment is crucial for those aiming to demonstrate proficiency in both English and their chosen foreign language, highlighting the school's commitment to academic excellence.

Additionally, the local fire department made a significant impact by visiting health classes at Smithfield High School to conduct "Stop the Bleed" training. This life-saving course, developed by the American College of Surgeons, teaches students essential first aid skills, including how to control bleeding and use tourniquets. With bleeding being the leading cause of preventable death after an injury, this training equips students with critical knowledge that could save lives.

In a spirited effort to boost school attendance, Smithfield High School is participating in the statewide "Attendance Matters" campaign. Currently, the class of 2027 is leading the competition with an impressive attendance rate of 93.3%.
