AT and T secures approval for cell tower at Miller Marketplace in Buckeye

In a recent Planning and Zoning meeting held in Buckeye, Arizona, the city council addressed a significant proposal that could enhance local telecommunications infrastructure. The meeting, which took place on April 18, 2025, featured a request from AT&T, presented by Bridal Koning of SmartLink, to construct a new telecommunication facility within the Miller Marketplace, located at the southeast corner of Miller Road and Southern Avenue.

The proposed cell tower is designed to accommodate one AT&T array, with the potential for an additional carrier in the future. Standing at 81 feet tall, the tower will be camouflaged as a broadleaf elm tree, complete with a screen wall that matches the existing marketplace's aesthetic. This design aims to minimize visual disruption while meeting all necessary height and setback requirements from nearby residential areas, which are approximately 400 feet away.

The council reviewed the proposal's compliance with the General Plan, which designates the area as a neighborhood zone, and confirmed that the project aligns with the commercial center zoning regulations. The meeting highlighted the importance of this facility in improving signal strength for local residents, as demonstrated by comparative images showing a marked increase in coverage with the new tower.

Public participation requirements were met, and the council noted that no objections were raised during the review process. The only public inquiry was regarding leasing opportunities for the cell tower site. After thorough discussion, the commission unanimously approved the conditional use permit for AT&T, paving the way for enhanced telecommunications services in the community.
