Liberty Hill ISD updates student discipline and enhances school safety funding

Liberty Hill ISD is set to enhance student safety and support with new legislative updates following a recent board meeting. Key changes include a revision to suspension policies, allowing for a maximum of 10 days of in-school suspension and enabling schools to take action against students for off-campus offenses that pose safety threats. This update aims to address incidents such as arrests for serious offenses, thereby increasing safety measures within schools.

Additionally, the district is excited about a new process that allows schools to seek court relief for students facing significant behavioral challenges, particularly those with mental health issues. This initiative is designed to expedite support for students who may not receive adequate help through existing resources.

The board also discussed Senate Bill 569, which, if passed, would facilitate the establishment of hybrid and virtual schools, potentially increasing funding for the district. Another significant legislative update is Senate Bill 260, which proposes an increase in the school safety allotment from $15,000 to $30,000 per campus, along with a rise in funding per student from $10 to $28.
