Glen Falls Fire Department honored for heroic rescue during January 15 fire incident

A heroic rescue by the Glens Falls Fire Department was highlighted during the City of Glens Falls Board of Public Safety meeting on February 12, 2025. Firefighters from A Crew were commended for their bravery and professionalism in responding to a significant fire incident on January 15 at 158 Bay Street.

The fire posed unique challenges, with multiple emergency calls reporting rapid fire progression and the urgent need to rescue a wheelchair-bound resident trapped on the second floor. Despite zero visibility and difficult conditions, the crew successfully executed the rescue, providing immediate medical attention to the victim while also containing the fire to its unit of origin, minimizing damage to surrounding properties.

The commendation, presented during the meeting, recognized the exceptional efforts of Captain Rick Stafford, Lieutenant Tom Ordway, and several firefighters who demonstrated unwavering commitment to life safety and property preservation. The commendation will be officially recorded and a ceremony is planned to honor the crew in the presence of the rescued resident.

In addition to the commendation, the meeting included discussions about a personnel issue, leading to a motion for an executive session to address a promotion. The board members unanimously agreed to proceed with the session, ensuring that important personnel matters are handled appropriately.
