Buckeye Hills collaborates on regional transportation plan for multi-county infrastructure expansion

Hocking County is set to enhance its transportation infrastructure as the county participates in a regional planning initiative with Buckeye Hills. During the Hocking County Commissioners Meeting on April 17, 2025, officials discussed the development of a comprehensive 10-year transportation plan that aims to address existing gaps and propose solutions for improved transit services across multiple counties.

The regional transportation plan, which marks a shift from previous county-only efforts, seeks to expand Hocking County's transportation capabilities. Officials highlighted the need for increased funding from state legislators, noting that current requests for transportation projects far exceed available resources, with demands reaching hundreds of millions against a mere $12 million in funding. The plan will be finalized and submitted for federal review, with collaboration expected between regional transit authorities to identify funding opportunities for local transit expansion.

In addition to transportation discussions, the meeting also covered significant funding initiatives, including the Ohio Public Works Commission (OPWC) and the Local Transportation Improvement Program (LTIP). The OPWC has allocated $374,000 for a major sewer rebuild project, which will benefit over 1,500 residents and 70 businesses in Hocking County. Meanwhile, the LTIP offers funding for road and bridge projects, presenting an opportunity for addressing critical infrastructure needs.

The meeting also featured a proclamation for Child Abuse Prevention Month, emphasizing the community's commitment to supporting families and raising awareness about child maltreatment. This initiative reflects the county's ongoing efforts to strengthen community ties and enhance the well-being of its residents.
