In a recent podcast episode featuring Mayor Scott James, the City of St. Albans outlined important community initiatives, including the upcoming Spring Cleanup and the much-anticipated YakFest event.
The Spring Cleanup is scheduled to take place from April 28 to May 9, aligning with the city's trash pickup schedule. Each ward will have designated days for residents to dispose of unwanted items, starting with Ward 1 on April 28 and concluding with Ward 9 on May 9. This initiative provides residents with a chance to declutter their homes, with a special emphasis on ensuring that large items are reported to public works for collection. However, residents are reminded that hazardous materials, such as paint and chemicals, will not be accepted. Instead, residents are advised to use absorbent materials like kitty litter to prepare these items for disposal.

On a more festive note, Mayor James also discussed the upcoming YakFest, a popular event that has been celebrated in St. Albans since 2018. Scheduled for June, YakFest is known for its association with the Tour de Coles, a prominent kayaking event. While details about this year's entertainment lineup are still being finalized, residents can stay updated by visiting the official YakFest website.
These initiatives reflect the city's commitment to community engagement and environmental stewardship, providing residents with opportunities to participate in local events and improve their neighborhoods. As the Spring Cleanup and YakFest approach, the city encourages all residents to get involved and take advantage of these offerings.
