Pickering Firm updates on Yandell road projects and environmental surveys

Madison County officials are making significant strides in the development of the North Old Canton Road to Bainbridge Crossing project, as outlined in a recent government meeting. Project manager Rick Ferguson from Pickering Firm reported that the team is progressing well, having completed topographic and utility surveys, and is currently conducting property surveys. The project, which encompasses two segments, is being approached as a unified effort, despite the complexities encountered, such as the discovery of iron pans that require additional due diligence.

Ferguson highlighted that environmental assessments are underway, including outreach to the Fish and Wildlife Service regarding potential impacts on endangered species. A cultural resource survey has also been completed, with no adverse effects reported, pending final confirmation from state archives.

Looking ahead, the project is set to advance into the next phases, with field reviews scheduled for early third quarter. The design plans include widening the road to a five-lane section, transitioning to a four-lane undivided stretch in areas with residential developments, and ensuring adequate access for future subdivisions.

The collaborative approach aims to streamline construction efforts, with traffic control measures being coordinated to minimize disruptions. As the project progresses, officials are optimistic about meeting timelines and enhancing road safety and accessibility for Madison County residents. The next steps will involve further refinement of the plans and continued engagement with stakeholders to ensure successful implementation.
