Howard County highlights completed projects including East Columbia canopies and Tiber Park expansion

During a recent budget work session in Howard County, Maryland, officials highlighted significant progress on various community projects, emphasizing their impact on energy efficiency and public amenities. The meeting, held on April 21, 2025, showcased completed and ongoing initiatives aimed at enhancing local infrastructure and services.

One of the key topics discussed was the completion of canopies at East Columbia, which are expected to improve energy usage in the area. The North Laurel Pool addition is currently about 50% complete, while a systemic program budgeted at $3.65 million will fund renovations at 9,755 Patuxent Woods, including updates to changing stations and restrooms. Furthermore, the old courthouse is set to house an Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) culture center and a center for the arts, both expected to open later this year. Plans for a roving radish and shared kitchen are also in the works for subsequent years.

The meeting also touched on community concerns regarding the Longfellow water main replacement project. Officials confirmed they are exploring alternative locations for equipment placement to address local residents' worries.
