City Council reviews Crestone's proposed changes to well sites and permits

The Aurora City Council's recent study session on April 21, 2025, focused on proposed changes to an operator agreement with Civitas, managed by Creststone Peak Resources. The discussion centered on revisions to well sites and the number of wells, which require public hearings before approval.

Creststone is seeking three key changes: the cancellation of a previously approved well site located less than 2,000 feet from two residential properties, a reduction in the total number of well sites, and the addition of six wells to the Reserve North Well site. This would increase the total number of wells at that site from nine to fifteen.

City staff expressed support for these changes, highlighting potential benefits such as reduced impact on nearby residences, decreased surface disruption by eliminating the canceled site, and lower traffic and road impacts due to the new site’s proximity to Interstate 70. The proposed site is also located in an area zoned for airport use, which is deemed more suitable for oil and gas operations.

It is important to note that any additional wells will require new permits from both the city and the Energy and Carbon Management Commission, following standard permitting processes. The council's decision on these changes will be made after the public hearing.
