DuPage County proclaims May 1 as Giving DuPage Day to support local nonprofits

During the recent DuPage County Board meeting, a significant proclamation was made to honor the contributions of local nonprofit organizations and their volunteers. Chair Deborah A. Conroy announced May 1, 2025, as "Giving DuPage Day," encouraging residents to support local charities through a virtual community fundraiser hosted by Giving DuPage.

Giving DuPage, founded in 2001, serves as a vital resource for connecting volunteers and donors with nonprofits in the area. This year’s online fundraiser aims to raise awareness and funds for over 100 local charities, building on the success of previous events that have connected more than 10,600 donors and raised over $1.5 million.

Mark Bushbaker, vice president of Giving DuPage, and Mary Keating, community services director, were present to accept the proclamation. They emphasized the importance of this initiative, particularly for smaller nonprofits that may lack the resources for large fundraising events. The online platform not only facilitates financial support but also fosters community engagement and volunteerism.

The board expressed appreciation for the ongoing efforts of Giving DuPage and its board members, highlighting the organization’s role in promoting volunteer opportunities and enhancing the capacity of local nonprofits. With over 5,000 monthly views on its volunteer portal, Giving DuPage is not just about fundraising; it also plays a crucial role in mobilizing human resources for community needs.
