Albuquerque County approves redevelopment plan for iconic Route 66 Highway House Hotel

The Bernalillo County Board of Commissioners convened on April 23, 2025, to discuss significant developments in the Nob Hill area, particularly the redevelopment of the Highway House into a new hotel. Officer Marcos Gonzalez explained that the IRBs are crucial for making the project financially viable, allowing the developers to reinvest tax savings back into the hotel. The Nob Hill area, known for its entrepreneurial spirit and proximity to the Air Force Research Laboratories, is seen as an ideal location for this new venture. Community engagement has been positive, with local associations supporting the redevelopment as a means to improve the neighborhood's image and economic prospects.

In addition to the hotel project, the meeting also addressed the fiscal year 2025 budget reconciliation, which included adjustments for various infrastructure projects. These adjustments aim to enhance road conditions and support behavioral health initiatives within the county. The commissioners approved a budget resolution that allocates funds for road improvements and the conversion of a temporary position to a permanent role in the Behavioral Health Division.
