Lake City officials are set to enhance youth employment opportunities this summer after the City Council approved a $25,000 funding request for a summer youth employment program during their recent meeting. This initiative aims to provide local teenagers with valuable job skills and work experience, reinforcing the city’s commitment to youth development.
The program, which has been a collaborative effort between the city, the county, and Florida Crown since its inception in 2019, faced challenges this year due to changes in Florida Crown's management. As a result, the organization could not commit to administering the program. In response, Lake City Police Chief proposed to allocate $25,000 from the Mariah Fund to ensure the program continues, allowing for the hiring of 20 local youth.
