Granbury ISD's AVID program is making waves as students showcase their achievements and community impact during the recent board meeting on April 21, 2025. The Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) program, which aims to prepare students for college through skills development and support, has seen remarkable success this year.
During the meeting, AVID students shared their personal journeys and collective accomplishments. Alejandra Landa, the AVID council's vice president, highlighted the program's mission to empower students to pursue higher education. With 305 participants in Granbury ISD, the program fosters a culture of determination and academic excellence.

Subscribe for Free Christie Torres, a senior, emphasized the importance of organization and collaboration in the AVID classroom, skills that have helped her secure a spot at Texas A&M University. Fellow senior Lily McCoy proudly announced that her class submitted over 200 college applications, with her own acceptance to the University of Alabama, debt-free.
The students also reported impressive scholarship achievements. Pooja Vittelpura revealed that the AVID senior class set a goal to earn $2.3 million in scholarships and exceeded it, raising a total of $3.2 million. This financial support will enable many students to attend college without the burden of debt.
In addition to academic success, the AVID program emphasizes community service. Addison Mallory, the AVID council president, discussed recent fundraising efforts to support local children in need, including a student suffering from Hurler Syndrome.
The Granbury ISD Board meeting showcased the transformative impact of the AVID program, not only in preparing students for college but also in fostering a sense of community and responsibility. As these students prepare for their next steps, their achievements reflect the program's commitment to nurturing future leaders.
