The Weber County Commission held a public hearing on April 22, 2025, to discuss proposed increases in parking violation fines near Pine View and Causey Reservoirs. The meeting highlighted growing concerns over public safety due to rising parking violations in these recreational areas, particularly during the busy summer months.
Sean Wilkinson, a representative from the county, presented an ordinance amendment aimed at addressing these issues. He noted that parking violations have become a significant safety hazard, as they increase pedestrian traffic near moving vehicles and limit space for emergency vehicles. The proposed changes would raise fines substantially in the affected areas.

Under the new proposal, fines would increase to $150 for first-time offenders who pay within 14 days, and to $300 if not contested or paid after that period. Repeat offenders would face even steeper penalties, with fines escalating to $300 if paid within 14 days and $600 if not contested or paid afterward.
The ordinance will apply specifically to the roads leading to Causey Reservoir and areas within a quarter mile of the Pine View Reservoir high water mark. While fines in other parts of the county will remain unchanged, these increases are designed to deter violations in high-traffic recreational zones.
Commissioners acknowledged that the ordinance would only be in effect until January 1, 2026, when jurisdiction over Pine View is expected to transfer to a new city government. Future city officials would have the authority to modify or maintain the ordinance as they see fit.
The meeting concluded with a consensus on the necessity of the proposed changes, emphasizing the importance of public safety in these popular recreational areas.
