Boreal Sun Charter School is celebrating a successful year marked by community engagement and innovative educational initiatives. During a recent school board work session, Heidi Collins, a new member of the Advisory Parent Council (APC) and handwork teacher at the school, highlighted the school’s commitment to a cross-curricular arts-integrated program inspired by Waldorf education principles.
The school has logged an impressive 2,218 volunteer hours from families, showcasing strong community involvement. Sixth graders are actively participating in a playground improvement project, demonstrating their commitment to enhancing their school environment. They have taken on roles as "squires," completing tasks at home and school, and are eager to contribute to building new playground equipment.

Subscribe for Free Looking ahead, Boreal Sun is set to host a pentathlon event on May 8, inviting students from three Waldorf schools to compete in various athletic activities. The school is seeking judges for the event and encourages board members and executive directors to participate.
In addition to these initiatives, Boreal Sun has adopted Dimensions Math from Singapore as its new curriculum for the upcoming year, reflecting a commitment to educational excellence. The school also fosters a sense of responsibility among students, who assist with daily custodial tasks and engage in reading buddy programs that pair eighth graders with first graders.
The school recently hosted an educator event featuring Coby Sharp, which attracted educators from across the district, further establishing Boreal Sun as a hub for professional development and collaboration.
