Sandy City Council has taken a significant step towards enhancing community recreation with the unanimous approval of a $1.3 million project for Bicentennial Park. During the meeting on April 22, 2025, Parks and Recreation Director Dan Medina presented the interlocal cooperation agreement with Salt Lake County, which secures $700,000 in funding from the Tourism, Recreation, Convention, and Culture (TRCC) program. This funding will be matched by $624,000 already budgeted by the city.
The project aims to revitalize one of Sandy's oldest parks, which has served the community for nearly five decades. Key improvements include the installation of new playground equipment, tennis courts, and pickleball courts, addressing the community's growing demand for recreational facilities. Medina emphasized the importance of these upgrades, noting that the existing playground and courts were in dire need of replacement.

The project is designed to promote outdoor activity and provide a welcoming space for families, aligning with the city's commitment to improving quality of life for residents.
Medina highlighted the collaborative efforts that made this project possible, particularly praising Mayor Soltanski's role in advocating for the funding. The mayor's involvement in the TRCC board was crucial in securing the necessary financial support.
As construction progresses, the city anticipates that the park will be ready for public use by summer, providing a much-needed recreational space for families and individuals in the community. This initiative not only enhances local amenities but also reflects Sandy's dedication to fostering healthy lifestyles and community engagement through accessible outdoor spaces.
