San Diego County celebrates Earth Day with sustainability initiatives and community engagement

Earth Day 2025 kicked off with vibrant energy at the County Operations Center in San Diego, where community members and county departments came together to celebrate sustainability and innovation. The event featured around 35 booths showcasing various sustainability initiatives, offering hands-on activities, crafts, and educational opportunities.

Attendees were treated to a range of engaging displays, including electric vehicles and a mini trash truck, highlighting the county's commitment to eco-friendly practices. A standout attraction was Athena, a burrowing owl, who drew curious visitors eager to learn more about wildlife conservation.

The fair also spotlighted local nonprofit In Good Company, which focuses on climate education and environmental stewardship. They provide inner-city youth and BIPOC communities with experiences in ocean activities like kayaking and snorkeling, while promoting beach cleanups to foster a sense of responsibility towards the environment.
